It does rather look egg-like, but no, this is not the future offspring of some android-ostrich. Can you name it??
Possible answers:
1) A special pouch for packing down comforters with a zipper seal,
2) A modernist, super-light carry-on suitcase that has three multi-directional mini-wheels and a compact extending handle-grip,
3) A new temperature-moderating urban composter that can be placed in a cupboard or under the sink, remedying the requirements of property ownership/leasehold estate with land...
If none of these sound right to you (bummer!!! I agree, I really liked the idea of an "urban under-sink composter") that's because these pieces are actually modern designer Denis Santachiara and Enrico Baleri's Tato Collection flexible seating. This piece above is the Tato DS 855. Other pieces include the spherical Tatino ED 860 and the longer Tatone ED 870.

Hi Missy,
No, not shopping more than normal! Modern design is a huge part of my life, I am a fan of new and mid-century design, and finally decided to write about in my blog what I'm most fascinated with. I'll also be featuring modern and mid century homes, as well as other compliments of the modern lifestyle.
I'm thinking I would have a very hard time getting out of one of these chairs. "Beached whale" comes to mind when I envision it. :) Call me old fashioned, but I like high back wing chairs. :) I love the colors on this stuff though.
Hi Rich! Answering that question could fill the pages of many blogs!!! Other than your typical Design Within Reach that is national store with excellent selection of tried and true favorites (always a good place to get started or familiar with modern essentials, and by "national" I don't mean cheap copies or substitutions of the originals, but real, up to par and accurate pieces as when they were just issued. Design Within Reach sells a lot of superb Herman Miller pieces, which owns the patents to many mid century design phenoms) one of my favorites includes Velocity Design, which is a downtown Seattle based store, with also an excellent online presence. There are several excellent mid-century stores in Ballard, and a great hole-in-the-wall for nifty finds at "steal" prices is Space Oddity, where pieces can be hit or miss, sometimes grand sometimes humble, but the proprietor (Todd, if I remember correctly) is a true pleasure to deal with.
Ryan, heheh AR has pretty generous filters, ;) Good for me they don't begrudge modern design! even funkier stuff coming up!
Kathy, these chairs are certainly.... "minimalistic". They are probably best for a temporary sit, as opposed to an extended lounge!
