Better Seattle

Downtown Bellevue's Live at Lunch Concert series continues

Greta MatassaIn our city of beautiful views, downtown is the place to be this summer! If you haven't yet savored a 2007 Live at Lunch concert, there's still time. These concerts rank right up there with Bellevue's winter holiday Magic Season Ice-skating and the Seafair Marathon, and showcase the best of our local Puget Sound talent. From noon to 1:30 pm, concerts are held at various locations Tuesdays and at Bellevue Galleria Thursdays.

Some that I won't miss:

Tuesday, August 21st is the day to catch accomplished pianist Scott Cossu at Bellevue City Hall as he mixes up world-inspired jazz beats to soothe your tired and weary bones (did I mention he has a background in classical and blues?) Grab a bite to eat and sit a while, this is as close as you get to therapeutic treatment short of a day at the Eastside Oasis.

Worth the extra effort to leave your stuffy office and voted by Earshot magazine as the best jazz vocalist in the northwest, Greta Matassa's sophisticated but yet demure vocals will knock your socks off! I've followed her all over Seattle proper to watch her perform; it's a treat to have her grace our lovely city this side of the pond. Tuesday, September 4th at the Civica Office Commons (plaza in back).

Bellevue's Live at Lunch would not be complete without Rock A Roake on Thursday, August 23rd at the Bellevue Galleria, where you can finally step out of those unpretentious and good-natured inhibitions and sing your heart out with a live back up band to answer the question, "Who's Bellevue's Ultimate Rock Star?" We know you want to. Don't be shy, there's an August 16th cutoff date to register, email events@bellevuedowntown.org or call (425)453-3111 right away.

Love the idea of a mid-day music series! Henderson NV has a couple of similar programs but they're usually evening or weekend performances. I haven't heard of these artists, but it's always fun to discover new talent. Maybe it's time for an AR Jazz Club!

That sounds magnificent, John! Do you want to spearhead it? What will the format be?

Sara, what a awesome idea for Bellevue's downtown workers. I would love to be able to do that in Ann Arbor. Thanks for sharing. Refreshing in the midst of a busy day.

What a great selection! That would be a fun way to really take a lunch break.

I also like your black and white photo - more attention getting in a world of color. Rather like some of the wonderful photos of jazz greats.

Babies learn to sing jazz before they learn to talk???

If I only had to listen to my Mom sing (who has a BEAUTIFUL voice) I might be able to pick up jazz in no time. Unfortunately, I also have to listen to my Dad butcher any tune that comes out of his mouth. I think he is retarding the part of my brain that sings............

They have this right up the street from our house. I'm going to have to convince my Mom to take me for a walk next week.

Missy, Bellevue really does an incredible job with it... and downtown Bellevueites are a discriminating crowd.

Sharon, the photo is of Greta Matassa (photo borrowed)... I am one of her biggest fans. Somehow we got her to sing at our wedding in 2001. I am still in awe of her.

Kelan, you downtown Bellevueite! You have commendable taste in real estate. Did you choose Bellevue because it was the second most happening neighborhood next to Kevin Tomlinson's South Beach?
